Promax Fits Perfectly Alongside This Tiny Home
Not every Promax tank is of the super-sized variety. We also supply a lot of smaller tanks for residential properties all around the country, including tiny homes.
Who: Leon and Jariya, Owners of a tiny home
Where: Queenstown, Central Otago
Products: 1x 3,000 litre ENDURO aboveground tank
Why: Leon and Jariya are part of the tiny home revolution sweeping the country. They have parked their home in Queenstown and enjoy spectacular mountain views from their modern and spacious dwelling. Tiny houses have a minimal environmental footprint, and Leon and Jariya have taken that one step further by harvesting the rainwater that falls on their roof. A compact Promax tank collects that water for them, with a little rain going a long way.
What: Leon and Jariya invested in a 3,000 litre ENDURO above-ground water tank. When you look at the Promax range, this tank seems small compared to our industrial models. Looks can be deceiving! You’ll be surprised how much rainwater you can harvest and collect in a tank of this capacity. As a bonus, if Leon and Jariya move to another part of the country, the compact design of their tank means they can pick it up, put it in their tiny home, and take it with them.
Leon and Jariya collect rainwater from a 30 square metre roof. They filled the tank in March 2022, giving them enough water to get through winter. Even though water levels are getting low at the time of writing (October 2022), they still haven’t topped it up. The harvested water allows the couple to wash and shower, and they estimate that if they lived “off-grid” and used water sparingly, they could go up to three months without rain and two months with regular usage.
A composting toilet saves a lot of water by not flushing it away, and if needed, they can top up the tank from a nearby stream. But, for all that, rain harvesting is a reliable water source for the couple, even during those icy Queenstown winters when things freeze solid very quickly.
Leon and Jariya report the water in their ENDURO tank has never frozen, even when temperatures have plunged to -9 degrees! The pipes from the tank are heavily lagged to mitigate freezing, while the storage box next to the tank also has lagged pipes to the house. The storage box features a polystyrene lining and houses a pump, 3-stage filter and UV steriliser, plus a heat lamp on a thermal switch to keep the pump from freezing. However, the heat lamp has never kicked in - it’s more insurance than anything else.
Tiny homes are becoming familiar sights all over New Zealand, and invariably, so are Promax tanks sitting snugly beside them.
